McLeod Farms offers schools in the surrounding area a chance to Come and See the Farm. This program is designed to educate children, ages four through eight, about farm life and lets them experience farming hands-on. McLeod Farms offers this exciting and educational program during two seasons: Strawberry and Pumpkin.
The Strawberry program is offered each Spring beginning in early April. Each group is read a story about strawberries and gets to eat a ripe strawberry and some strawberry ice-cream. The children, along with their teachers and adult chaperones will be transported to the strawberry field on a tractor drawn wagon where they can pick their own container of strawberries. As they travel to the strawberry patch, their guide will tell them about other fruits and vegetables that we grow here at McLeod Farms. Each child also takes home a Strawberry Farm coloring book.
Pumpkin Patch programs are offered in the Fall and include storytime featuring stories about pumpkins and other crops harvested in the Fall. The entire group learns about squash, sweet potatoes, corn, peas, beans, and other seasonal produce during their wagon ride to the pumpkin patch. Each child picks out their own pumpkin to take home and carve or decorate and also receives an ice cream treat and a “take home” coloring/activity book about growing pumpkins.
The cost per child for either the Strawberry or Pumpkin Patch field trip is $6.50.
